PORTRAIT OF NDG
Welcome to Notre-Dame-de-Grace, one of Montreal’s most iconic, diverse, and vibrant neighbourhoods. One half of the Borough of Cotes-des-Nieges-Notre-Dame-de-Grace, NDG is home for more than 70,000 people and is a hub of activity, with a colourful mix of languages and backgrounds, of commerce and residences, of culture and community life. Situated west of the downtown and Mont Royal, NDG has developed a unique character that its residents embrace and are proud of.
CHARACTERISTIC
Present-day NDG lies southwest of downtown Montreal. It is bordered by Montreal West, Côte-St-Luc and Hampstead to the west and north, the Sud-Ouest borough the south and Westmount to the east. Predominant physical features are the Décarie highway, falaise St-Jacques, and the Loyola campus of Concordia University. Major arteries are Saint Jacques Street, Sherbrooke Street West, Monkland Avenue, Côte-St-Luc Road, and Cavendish and Décarie boulevards.
HISTORY
In the 1660s, the Décarie, Hurtubise and Milot families from the new colony of Ville Marie became landowners in the area known as Coteau Saint-Pierre, thus leaving their mark in NDG. The Village of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce was established in 1876 and grew rapidly thanks to its rural ambiance. Its fertile soil produced apples that were shipped to England and melons that were highly prized in New York and Boston.
The Elmhurst Dairy, founded in the late 1870s, increased its grazing land by 400 acres in the subsequent years, even before NDG was incorporated as a town in 1906 and annexed by the City of Montreal as the NDG ward in 1910. In 1914, there were 5000 inhabitants, and by 1930, their numbers had increased to 30,000.

Outdoor billboards
You can find outdoor message boards all over Montréal. They offer free display space that everyone can use. They are also universally accessible.
Posters can be stapled or taped to the rubber surface. The cleaning frequency and date are shown on each message board. A message board may be temporarily removed for maintenance.
Cycling network in CDN-NDG
The cycling network in CDN-NDG is being enhanced by making 9 km of existing bike lanes safer and adding nearly 3 km of protected two-way bike lanes. Cyclists will be able see the benefits in June or even earlier!
The addition of two bike lanes on Avenue Bourret and Avenue Walkley will bring the total number of kilometres of bike paths and lanes in CDN-NDG to nearly 40 km.
