Community Intervention for Seniors Living in Social Housing NDG
The Council started working on this issue during COVID. We applied for different funding to create projects in the different HLMs and other social housing in the past three years. We had monthly meetings that bring all actors that work in these projects to better coordinate our interventions and have a space to exchange.

- Support the creation of resident committees
- Support civic participation and social involvement
- Improve and harmonise services and projects offered to residents of these buildings through concerted action

Activities, projects, and programs
- 7 social housing buildings were included in the project: HLMs Mayfair, StRaymond, Monkland, Terrebonne and Girouard, LCSG, Chez Soi.
- A total of 505 doors were visited 3 to 6 times each
- Some 430 senior residents benefited directly from the project, either by participating group activities or by personalised support
- 1 newsletter for seniors distributed in buildings
- 5 committees supported to empower individuals themselves: 2 committees created, 1 in the process of formation and 2 existing committees that benefited from our support
- 3 weekly French conversation groups set up in social housing 12 residents each (Terrebonne, Monkland, Girouard)
- 11 neighbourhood partners involved in resident support and consultation seniors
- Monthly meetings of the HLM Committee, bringing together 11 partners
LAST YEAR STATISTIC
43 door-to-door outreach visits, knocking on 6,435 apartment doors. Out of those, we had face-to-face conversations with residents in 3,650 apartments.
Set up kiosks at our partner community organisations, resulting in interactions with 323 residents.
Reached over 325 residents through outreach activities held in public areas such as food markets and parks. Interacted with 250 residents through outreach activities conducted at our own office
Reached over 1200 residents through outreach activities organised at NDG Community Council events
Vision for future outreach in NDG
Partnership with other organizations
Partnership is a critical component of successful outreach efforts in the NDG neighborhood. The NDG Community Council actively seeks partnerships with other community organizations to maximize outreach opportunities and better serve the needs of residents. For instance, the council provides kiosks during other organizations' events, and community workers from other organizations can join together for outreach initiatives. By working collaboratively, the Council can promote resources not only from its own organization but also from other organizations in NDG. This is made possible through effective communication and trust-building efforts among community organizations. By sharing information about available resources and collaborating on outreach initiatives, community organizations can help to ensure that residents are aware of and have access to the services they need. Partnership is a crucial aspect of building a connected and supportive community in NDG.
Partnership with residents
Partnership with residents is another essential aspect of successful outreach efforts in the NDG neighborhood. The NDG Community Council works to involve residents in outreach activities, such as kiosks and door-to-door campaigns, by recruiting volunteers from the community. This approach not only enables the council to expand its outreach efforts but also empowers residents to actively participate in the community and learn more about the services offered by the council. By involving residents in outreach initiatives, the council can build trust, establish relationships, and gain valuable insights into the needs of the community. This partnership approach fosters a sense of ownership and pride among residents and promotes a more connected and engaged community in NDG.
