As part of the Council's long tradition to mobilise residents around important issues in their community, the Council's staff organised several public assemblies, discussion groups and many public events, all in collaboration with community partners and residents. The issues discussed in public assemblies are determined by community demand and by the specific context that residents are facing.

2014
As part of the NDG Community Action Plan 2014, six public assemblies were organised during the summer of 2014. The objective of these assemblies was to provide a space for organisations to present their actions to residents and create a space for exchange and feedback. Another well-known and very popular activity was the Meet the Candidates event organised by the Council during the School elections in 2014. A public assembly on transportation this year sparked the formation of a new transportation committee in NDG. Another assembly focused on wealth inequality and austerity.

2015
This year, with the objective of reaching out to local business in NDG, we created a new initiative “Communi-Tea” a space for entrepreneurs and businesses to connect and discuss different issues related to the development of their sector. These public meetings are held either in the early morning or in the evening to encourage their participation.
The focus of the meetings is on the Local Economy (ex. revitalisation of commercial streets , buying local). We had three (3) meetings year 2015 -2016:
As part of the NDG Community Action Plan 2015, public assemblies were organised to highlight the plan and the importance of working in partnership. We also highlighted great programs which were created during the year such as “Intervenant Communautaire Scolaire, “French Class for new immigrants”, and the “ Arts & Culture Table”.
April - Citizen in action and wealth and inequality
May - NDG Commercial Revitalization - Communi-Tea in NDG
September - NDG Commercial Revitalization - Communi-Tea in NDG
October - Meet Your candidates (Federal Elections)
December -NDG Strategic Plan (Arts & Culture in NDG)

NDG 2020 Public Assemblies: Forums for Concerted Action and Mobilization One of the key components for encouraging resident involvement in community life is providing a forum for information sharing and exchange regarding issues that touch their daily lives. Providing a space for this information sharing and exchange on common interests is the purpose of our 2020 public assemblies. NDG 2020 Public Assemblies are community meetings organized in partnership with local groups in order to provide a public forum for the discussion of important community issues. These assemblies are always organized in partnership with local groups and organizations and with the support of the 2020 organizing committee, itself made up of residents and representatives from various community organizations.
NDG 2020 Public Assemblies are venues for discussion, reflection, debate and mobilization. Some Assemblies from this past year:
The Empress Cultural Centre / September 13, 2010
The public assembly organized on the subject of the Empress Cultural Centre is an excellent exam ple of concerted action between the NDG Community Council, the Empress Cultural Centre and the Renaissance Empress resident coalition. Our combined efforts resulted in the gathering of 80 part i - cipants including residents, elected officials and administrators.
Benny Farm / November 23, 2010
With the completion of the residential component of the redevelopment of the Benny Farm site, this public assembly provided an opportunity for exchange and reflection on the redevelopment process, the Community Council's role in community development at Benny Farm as well as future challenges that will be faced by residents on the site as further development unfolds.

MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD
The NDG Community Council is working to improve residents' participation by offering fun accessible ways to have your voice heard. We've started the Get Involved series to expand areas of resident mobilization through Surveys, Lunch Clubs/Communi-Tea and Public Assemblies
SURVEYS
- Help us better understand NDG residents wants and needs
- Help us highlight what is missing in the neighborhood
- Let us hear YOUR voice on community matters
LUNCH CLUBS / COMMUNI-TEA
- Have you ever wanted change in your community?
- Is there something missing that could help you or your neighbor's quality of life?
- Do you want to connect with other like-minded people?
- If you answered yes to any of these, join us for a constructive community discussion.
MEET YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS
The "Meet Your Elected Officials" initiative provides a valuable opportunity for community members to engage directly with their elected representatives. Through open dialogues, residents can discuss their concerns, share their perspectives, and build essential connections, fostering a stronger sense of partnership and collaboration between the community and its leaders
