The Community Kitchens Assistant Coordinator is a 10-month contract for 35 hours per week (subject to renewal). S/he will play a key role in the reestablishment of our various Community Kitchens workshops within our Food Skills hub. This will include supporting the creation of new workshop series, as well as helping to reimplement existing programming that has been on hold during the pandemic.  S/he will act as the principal facilitator for several workshops, primarily with adults, seniors, and families, and organize at least one program independently, with the support of the Nutrition and Food Skills Manager. The chosen candidate must be committed, dynamic and engaging, with solid communication skills in both English and French.

Founded in 1986, The Depot Community Food Centre is a community-based non-profit organization that works collaboratively with its community to address the root causes of hunger and poverty in NDG and the surrounding areas in a manner that ensures dignity, engagement and the development of human potential. We offer over 20 food-based programs to support the food security and healthy eating habits of youth, families and individuals. Key Responsibilities 

  • Coordinate a weekly Community Kitchen program (Collective Creations), including planning activities, developing themes and menus, and supporting the virtual recipe in a box activity while it is still being offered.
  • Lead food purchasing and preparations for all community kitchen programming. 
  • Assist with re-establishing existing community kitchen programs.
  • Support the pilot and development of new community kitchens in collaboration with Nutrition and Food Skills Manager.
  • Act as lead facilitator, supporting other facilitators and participants, to create a collaborative learning and sharing space.  
  • Support our outreach efforts to connect community members to food skills programming including working with our Food Skills Program Assistant in the nutrition corner. 
  • Help with the collection and entry of evaluation data, including participation rates and qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Help recruit and work with participants to strengthen social connections and a sense of belonging through inclusion and activities which promote a safe and collaborative learning environment.
  • Support all Food Skills programs, including Boite à Lunch and the Resto Depot program, and participate in community life and general duties associated with all Depot employees; 
  • Due to the COVID pandemic, roles and responsibilities are subject to change.



  • Bilingual English/French with the ability to facilitate comfortably in both languages
  • Facilitation experience, ideally with adult and senior populations in the community setting
  • Working knowledge of food education, and basic understanding of food access barriers faced by people living on low incomes
  • Strong cooking skills using nutritious and accessible ingredients. Ability to transmit these skills to participants and colleagues in a positive and engaging way; comfort with basic nutritional concepts
  • Capacity for effective and collaborative teamwork, flexibility,  and comfort in a diverse community environment
  • Confidence in the kitchen and ability to create a knowledge sharing space to help facilitate the transmission of skills to participants and volunteers in an empowering manner
  • Drivers license required

  • Spirit of initiative, fun and creativity encouraged, as well as a passion for good food and a dedication to high quality work!

  • Good organizational and time management skills and strong interpersonal and communication skills


Working Conditions 

  • Contract duration: 10 month , subject to renewal (June 6, 2022 - March 31 2023)
  • Working hours:  Monday to Friday approximately 9-4pm with some evening workshops and occasional weekend workshops (1 Saturday per month as of September)
  • Salary $21/hour, 35 hours per week
  • Workplace: The Depot Community Food Centre in Notre-dame-de-grace, workshops also occur at other partner organizations, ability to travel back and forth is essential
  • Contract start date: June 6, 2022
